Hong Kong-based airline Cathay Pacific is suspending several of its international routes until March 28, 2020. According to travel advisories on the airline’s website, the carrier will cease operating flights to London Gatwick, Rome, Washington, DC, Newark, Male, Davao, Clark, Jeju, Taichung, and all mainland China cities, except Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Xiamen.

The travel advisories read, “In view of the Novel Coronavirus outbreak, and the subsequent drop in market demand, we have reduced around 90% of Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon flights into Mainland China. There will also be significant short-term reductions — approximately 30% of our capacity — across our network over the next two months.”

The announcement by Cathay Pacific is one of many precautions Hong Kong is taking to minimize the virus’ spread. Hong Kong International Airport revealed today that it would begin separating all mainland China flights from other international flights. Any passenger who has been to mainland China in the past 14 days will be taken for medical screenings followed by 14 days of mandatory quarantine. All rail service to mainland China from Hong Kong is suspended.
